Jean Claude Ellena in the New Yorker

Posted by Robin on 8 March 2005 9 Comments

Thank you to Ruth (aka lipstick on MakeupAlley) and Tania for pointing out this fabulous article in the New Yorker about perfumer Jean Claude Ellena. The article is written by Chandler Burr (author of The Emperor of Scent) and focuses on the creation process that resulted in the final version of Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.

Caron Aimez Moi perfume review

Caron Aimez Moi fragrance

Aimez Moi was launched in 1996, and was said to have been inspired by the earlier Caron fragrance N’aimez Que Moi, which was released in 1916 for soldiers to present to their sweethearts before going off to war. The newer fragrance was created by perfumer Dominique Ropion, and the notes are anise, freesia, violet leaf, bergamot, mint, caraway, magnolia, cardamom, jasmine, peach, iris, heliotrope, tonka bean, amber, musk and cloves.

Aimez Moi starts rather strong and sweet, and the first time I smelled it in the Caron boutique I thought it was lovely but that it might be too heavy for me. I was given a tassel sprayed with the fragrance to take home, and that was all it took: I purchased a bottle before the week was out…

The Different Company BergamoteThe Different Company BergamoteThe Different Company Bergamote

I am still waiting anxiously for a sample of The Different Company’s Jasmin de Nuit (please comment if you’ve tried it!) so as consolation today I am wearing Divine Bergamote. This is yet another of my favorites from Jean Claude Ellena, who created the first 4 releases from this line before moving on to become house nose at Hèrmes. The notes are: bergamot, hesperidium, precious woods, ginger, orange flower, green leaf, rhubarb wood, musk.

This is a sheer, transparent scent…

Spotted at TJ Maxx yesterday…

Posted by Robin on 5 March 2005 6 Comments

My TJ Maxx was unusually well stocked yesterday, but I think the only thing I saw that I hadn't seen there lately was an Escada Margaretha Ley gift set. Other bargains: Ivoire de Balmain, White Shoulders, Alfred Sung Sha, Cacharel Amor Amor & Anais Anais, Versace The Dreamer, and Trussardi Skin.

Anything good at your discount store this week?
