Perfume of the day: i Profumi di Firenze Magnolia Dolce

Posted by Robin on 3 April 2005 20 Comments

magnolia

Magnolia Dolce is the latest release from i Profumi di Firenze, and features magnolia petals “bathed in Damascus Rose water for 10 days to capture their delectable creaminess”.

The top notes are sweet and slightly sharp, with possibly some lily of the valley or another, similar floral. It calms to a creamy magnolia with a touch of rose. The dry down is very soft, with just the tiniest hint of powder. I am still guessing here, but I get an impression of iris, and maybe some sandalwood in the base…

TJ Maxx report: J Lo Glow & more

Posted by Robin on 3 April 2005 2 Comments

At my local TJ Maxx this week: J Lo Glow, Diesel Green, Diesel Zero Plus Masculine & Feminine, Guerlain Samsara EdT, Yves Saint Laurent Nu, Carolina Herrera Carolina, Anna Sui Dolly Girl, Paula Dorf Zita, and Gres Cabaret. Also a few Imaginez candles. I was tempted by the pretty Zita bottle, but left with nothing.

More celebrity fragrances: Bethany Hamilton & Maria Sharapova

Posted by Robin on 3 April 2005 2 Comments

Competitive surfer Bethany Hamilton, who became famous after losing an arm to a shark attack off Kauai, is releasing two fragrances:

Stoked is for girls and Wired is for boys. Stoked blends notes of clementine, pineapple, tropical orchids, lotus blossoms, sandalwood and coconut. Wired includes notes of orange and Asian pear, jasmine, juniper, cedar wood and sandalwood.

You can read more at her website. (via Arizona Business Gazette link no longer working, sorry!)

And tennis star Maria Sharapova will release a "light, flowery scent" this September. (via the Miami Herald another broken link!)

Fragrance review ~ Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

osmanthus
osmanthus

Osmanthus is one of my favorite floral notes. It is a flowering tree native to China; a related variety is known as Tea Olive in the southern United States. It has a bright, fruity aroma, with hints of apricot. The notes for the Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus are pomello, davana (a sweet Egyptian herb), pimento, osmanthus, water lily, jasmine, cedar, labdanum, musk and vetiver.

Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus starts with a nice burst of citrus (allrecipes has an article on pomello), and light herbal notes. The osmanthus itself is simply radiant; I do not know of any other perfume that so perfectly catches the beauty of the flower. The water lily and jasmine are more muted, as is the cedar. It has a lovely smoky-resinous undertone from the labdanum that saves it from being too sweet and pretty…
