Coty buys Unilever fragrance business

Thank you to Tania and Marcello for forwarding the news that Coty has purchased Unilever's fragrance business, which will be folded into Coty's Lancaster Group Worldwide. Included in the deal are Unilever fragrance brands Calvin Klein, Cerruti, Vera Wang, Chloe, and Lagerfeld.

Coty's existing brands include Davidoff, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, Jovan, Vivienne Westwood, Nautica, Joop, and The Healing Garden, among others, and new fragrances are coming soon from Sarah Jessica Parker and David Beckham. Fragrance review: Yuzu Rouge by Parfums 06130

Yuzu Rouge was created for Parfums Zero Six Cent-Trente by perfumer Raphael Haury, and the fragrance notes are yuzu, grapefruit, bergamot, cardamom, cassis, verbena, rose, nutmeg, amber, moss, and musk.

Yuzu Rouge starts as a sparkling citrus rose scent with a hint of cassis, and it is essentially linear, so it pretty much stays that way while it lasts. The rose not nearly as pronounced as it is in Parfums de Rosine Un Zeste de Rose…

Baby Phat Goddess, Christian Dior Addict 2 & more new perfume launches

Baby Phat Goddess perfumeBaby Phat Goddess by Kimora Lee Simmons' Baby Phat line will launch in September. The fragrance, described as a “passionate floral bouquet”, was created by perfumer Jean-Claude Delville and has notes of gardenia, white rosebuds, cedrat flower, blue lily, hyacinth, black pepper, seringa, musk and exotic woods. Baby Phat Goddess is an Eau de Parfum and is available in 50 and 100 ml (the bottle features a removable rhinestone ring) and in matching body products.

Amouage Ubar ~ fragrance review

Amouage Ubar fragrance, 2009 packaging

Amouage originally released Ubar in 1995. It was meant to celebrate Oman’s Silver Jubilee year, and was named for the lost Omani city of Ubar, long believed to be an important center of the historical frankincense trade and re-discovered in 1992 with the aid of satellite imaging. The original bottle (see below) was by Pierre Dinand, and while it was a striking design, there was something about it that I always thought a poor fit with the juice.

Ubar has been relaunched this year (20091). It has new packaging (see image above), a new concentration (the original was an Eau de Toilette; now it’s an Eau de Parfum) and a new price (much higher). The notes (bergamot, lemon, lily of the valley, Damascena rose, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, sandalwood, synthetic civet and vanilla) are reportedly the same.
