NST leaves town…

Posted by Robin on 29 July 2005 35 Comments

Henlopen postcardI have no review today, and no excuse other than sheer laziness. Just as well then that I am off on vacation. Am wearing Les Bains du Marais Fleur d'Oranger, and looking forward to a relaxing week. My plans: eat french fries, sit under a beach umbrella and finish the Billy Strayhorn biography I've been neglecting all month, eat some more fries, and take my son to the boardwalk to ride the bumper cars.

I am trying to limit the number of fragrances I bring, because if last year's beach vacation is any indication, I won't end up wearing any of them anyway. In my bag so far: Carthusia Mediterraneo, L'Eau de L'Artisan, yesterday's Parfums de Nicolai Eau d'Été, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, and Creed Jasmal. No doubt I will throw in a few more before I leave.

If it turns out (and I suspect that it will) that I do in fact have to come back home, I will post again on Tuesday, August 9th.

Those of you who have read Chandler Burr's Emperor of Scent, which described Turin's efforts to unlock the mystery of how smell works, are already familiar with the basics of the controversy between shape and vibration theorists (for background, see the links provided in my interview with Luca Turin). Turin's book will focus on the history of this controversy and pay homage to those before him who “got it right”, although as he acknowledges, the jury is still out on the matter…

Parfums de Nicolai Eau d’Ete fragrance review

Parfums de Nicolai Eau d'Ete fragrance

Eau d’Été was released by Parfums de Nicolaï in 1997. It has notes of lime, grapefruit, blood orange, jasmine, cinnamon, balsam, and musk.

Eau d’Été has long been one of my favorite summer fragrances. The top notes are sharp citrus, with a sparkling grapefruit that never turns sour on the skin and lots of zesty lime. It eases gently into into a soft blend of jasmine and citrus…
