Home fragrance review: L’Ambre candle by L’Artisan
The most wonderful aspect of the L'Ambre candle by L'Artisan is its ability to create a festive atmosphere with a gentle relaxing touch. It is not the madness of the last minute holiday dinner preparation nor the mini crisis of a gift not purchased, but the vision of having a glass of mulled wine in front of a large fireplace. The warmth of amber, darkly powdery and vanillic is delectably underpinned by the balsamic accent of labdanum. The pine bark quality prevents L'Ambre from becoming overly sweet and gourmand, even though there are moments when I notice the scent of gingerbread wafting in the air…
On perfume samples, or why it is easier to be a niche snob
I have been thinking this week about a summary of the year in perfume, and have been struck once again by how many of my favorites from 2005 are from the niche houses. Back in June, I posted a brief article on niche snobbery, and while I have tried to expand my sampling to include more mainstream and designer fragrances, I have to say that it isn't easy.
If you want to get a sample of the latest niche perfume, it isn't so very hard to do. Almost all of the online niche boutiques offer sample sets. You will have to pay, mind you, but paying a few dollars for a sample is not a big deal to me…
