Fragrance shopping

Posted by Robin on 25 August 2005 12 Comments

Thanks to Marlen for the news that Stephen Burlingham's Truly, described as "a fresh dewy scent that begins with the sweet warmth of Hyacinth and tangy Citrus combined with exotic Jasmine and Red Peony and mellowed with White Peach, Warm Moss, and Sandalwood", is now available at Barneys online.

Get free shipping from gloss with code FALLSKIN, good on orders of $50 or more through 8/30.

Get $15 off a $50 purchase at lacremebeauty with code luckymag, good through 9/30, also markdowns on Creative Scentualization, Tipton Charles, Norma Kamali and Flowerbelle. Thanks to Sara for the news!

I have a sample of Truly, and when I first applied it, I could have sworn I wore Chanel Cristalle EDP by mistake. It is remarkably similar to Chanel, but not as interesting.

I have tried Truly several times but it isn't particularly original or interesting. Considering the pricetag I expected more. I hope Madly and Deeply are better compositions.

V, I have a sample too but given my usual sluggish pace, of course I haven't tried it yet 🙂

F, I thought Madly was supposed to be released by now. Hope we will see them at all!

Well, I was pretty intrigued by your review but the ensuing comments have, thank God, dampened my enthusiasm. I'm being self-bombarded with perfume infatuations these days.

Hi L, that was Barney's description, not my review! I haven't even tried the stuff yet 🙂

I also heard somewhere that another one was released, but haven't heard since – who or where? Truly, I didn't like Truly. Hoping the Purple Deeply will be wonderful.

V, I *think* that Truly was launched at Takashimaya, and had in fact been on the shelves there for some months prior to its official launch. Based on that I'm assuming that Madly will materialize there first too??

Alien is at Bloomingdales. My daughter & I sampled it today and it's wonderful! I don't “get” the name, at all though.

Thanks so much for commenting, I think that is one of the first postive comments I've seen on Alien. I have a sample and hope to get to it soon.

You know, I just posted about this — I think you've pegged it exactly, it is very similar to Chanel Cristalle, and as I love the Cristalle (use it by the buckets), no wonder I really like this one too. Good call!

LOL — you found the reference that I couldn't remember, good going!
