New fragrances from Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, Lolita Lempicka & more

Posted by Robin on 9 August 2005 5 Comments

Calvin Klein ck one scene fragranceCalvin Klein will launch ck one scene, a limited edition, in November:

The juice opens on notes of mandarin, ylang ylang and ginger root, leading to a heart of rosewood, ginger softact and muguet. The base is a blend of musk, amber woods and vanilla amber.

Estee Lauder has released Pleasures Intense for men exclusively in duty free:

The juice, described as a charismatic wood, opens on notes of bergamot, grapefruit, kiwi, basil and a green leaf accord. The heart is a blend of tomato leaf, celery, orris and water violet flower; the base features a masculine skin accord, combined with vetiver, amber and cedar wood.

Lolita Lempicka will release Star Dusts, the 2005 limited edition bottle of its Midnight Fragrance, in September. (via moodiereport)

Estee Lauder will release its first fragrance in conjunction with Tom Ford this December: Youth Dew Amber Nude, a reinterpretation of the classic Estee Lauder perfume. Update: see more on Youth Dew Amber Nude here.

Adidas will launch Adidas Originals for men next month in parts of Europe and the UK, early 2006 in the US:

Created by Philippe Bousseton, senior perfumer of Takasago, the juice has a classic base of wood — plus vetiver and vanilla — top notes of aromatic nutmeg, fennel and coriander, and a heart of citrus, mint, sambuca, licorice and blue curaçao, which is known as the Kiss Cool accord. Can you explain why certain fragrances are released only at Duty-Free shops? Why this marketing strategy?

I don't know what his original intentions were when he left Gucci, but he signed a deal with EL earlier this year, see:

Iris, I have read that many larger companies now see the duty-free only status as a way to test market a new fragrance without incurring the costs associated with a major launch. No doubt there are other reasons as well, but I have no idea what they are!
