Posted by Robin on 12 March 2005 5 Comments

The Fragrance Foundation has released the names of the finalists for this year's Fifi awards. The list usually narrows each category from 10 semi-finalists to 5 finalists, but this year, ties in both major women's categories result in 6 perfumes (see the original list of semi-finalists here).

NOUVEAU NICHE

Burberry Brit Red

CK One Summer
Jil Sander Pure
Bond No. 9 Eau de New York
Shanghai

LUXE

Kenneth Cole Black

This year's nominees for the Fragrance Hall of Fame are:

One has to wonder how Brittney's Curious rates a spot in there. Are these awards based totally on sales, or quality of the product?

The awards are supposed to “honor the fragrance industry's creative achievements”. What can I say — the winners are almost always the big selling fragrances, and it is fairly rare to see true niche fragrances make the list of finalists.

It would be nice to see the Bonds win this year. As for the selections in the categories, you can see the influence of big bucks and big companies. I do not think we will ever see Rosines and Fragonards at the Fifi awards.

I agree, but for some reason I think the winner will be Prada — not like I know anything about it, LOL!! And you are right, the “true” niche fragrances are completely ignored.

Prada has the big name in order to win, I agree! I prefer the Prada Intense, which seems to be virtually unknown. More ambery! Less patchouli!
